Foundry Technology

Foundry technology research concentrates on understanding digitalisation and forming process optimisation, particularly for novel casting materials of cast irons and aluminum alloys. Integrated co-simulation of casting processes with part use-case simulation, including part loading stress and thermal or electromagnetic performance has generated breakthrough cast part optimisation capability. Research into digital manufacturing of 3D-printed wax models and investment casting has enabled more rapid prototype development and increased cast part performance.  Research is also underway on integrated foundry digitalisation for greatly increased quality control, operations, and also the circular economy.
