Shaking up Tech event inspires and encourages female high schools students to choose a career in technology
Aalto University will be running the Shaking up Tech event for the first time. The event is fully booked.
On International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, Aalto University will be running the Shaking up Tech event for the first time to inspire and encourage young women to take up technology studies after graduating from high school.
The technology field offers many opportunities to have an impact on the world.
Health technology, space science…
…sustainable development, mobile application design, management roles in the business world! Students graduate from Aalto University with dozens of different areas of specialisation. Technology professionals create the products and services of the future.
The future is in the hands of us all; expertise or opportunities do not depend on gender!
Through the Shaking up Tech event, Aalto University’s schools of technology want to offer young women - soon facing study and career choices - a new understanding of technology.
The goal is further to indicate that the young women have more than enough expertise and skills to study technology. The partners of the event include a range of businesses that share the same goal. Technology is the field of the future and there is already competition in the labour markets for competent women.
The event begins at 10.00 with speeches given by alumni and professors, continued with a student panel. After lunch, the event offers a selection of concrete workshop options and then concludes in the evening with a fair. The event ends at 19.00.
The event’s main speaker Linda Liukas is a children’s author, illustrator, and active promoter of coding.
‘If life had turned out as linear as I assumed it was at the age of 19, I wouldn’t be doing nearly as fun things as I now do.’
Registrations of high school students for the event have already reached 200, so the event is now fully booked. We will be in contact with those on the waiting list if any places become available.
